There are basic maintenance tasks every vehicle owner should know to ensure that the vehicle lasts for a longer time. They are simple things to carry out on your own without the help of an expert. Vehicle repairs can be expensive and it is better to avoid serious repairs by keeping up the routine maintenance.

You should clean brake dust regularly. If left unattended, the grime and moisture that has accumulated will be baked on to the wheels with the heat that is generated from within. You can clean the break dust on the wheels with a wet sponge regularly. The tire pressure has to be checked once a week. If the tire pressure is not at a suitable level, it can affect the fuel economy of the vehicle. You will notice a difference in the comfort and handling of the car. The tread depth of the tires has to be checked as well. This can be easily checked because most cars come with tires that have tread war bars. These will show the amount of wearing the tire has gone through. You can then replace the tires when you deem that the tread is too low.

You can also ask your mechanic about what you can do as daily maintenance. The oil level of the vehicle should be checked as well. Your engine will not be able to operate efficiently if the oil is too low or too high. What you need to do to check the level is to park the car on level ground and wait for the engine to cool down. Once it has cooled down, you can pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean. This is to clean it of all the oil so that you can get a clearer reading.

Next, the dipstick has to be pushed all the way back in. You can then take it out and read the level of the oil. It has to be between the high and low marks on the stick. This is a simple task that anyone can do. If you feel like there is something wrong with the vehicle, make sure that you take it for mechanical repairs in Footscray immediately. It is very important to have an auto repair shop that you deem reliable so that you don’t have to waste any time looking for it when your vehicle has a problem. This will save valuable time.

Another thing you can do is check your coolant level. You can refer to your handbook and locate the coolant reservoir. It is usually in a white transparent bottle. Once the engine cools down, you can look at the bottle and find the high and low markings on its surface. As the bottle is transparent, you will be easily able to see where the current level is. Remember never to take the radiator cap off when you check the levels of the coolant.
